Emotions and Leadership

I’m not a details guy.

So I’m not interested in particular schools of philosophy of the definition of leadership and I’m certainly not going to pretend to be able to give a satisfying definition of what an emotion is.

I live within and recognise a complex world of ever increasingly intense and challenging situations. My approach to leadership and emotions takes this complex world and carries out the the ultimate reductionist effort, distilling everything down to its simplest possible form….

Leadership - Me surviving to the next day in a neutral or better position. Me putting myself in front of others in a recognised position or responsibility.

Emotions - Both a messaging system by which my brain takes live, sensory information and triggers a behaviour in me. And also a narrative, a library of memories, values and believes, a live largely subconscious filter, through which my brain passes everything I sense.

With every reductionist approach, we need to acknowledge and celebrate my uniqueness and the uniqueness of my views. You too have yours. This is the beauty of promoting discussion about emotions, there will never be a correct or incorrect answer, just emergent thoughts and perspectives.

Let me begin…..all my leadership and yours, every aspect of it, is emotionally driven. Discuss………
